Happiest when making films with a solid emotional component driving the storytelling and performances, Fernando strives to tell stories that marry great visuals with technical excellence. Hugely experienced in VFX, having been at the helm of Bluebird’s ‘Free the Bird’ and the follow-up series of Air New Zealand’s ‘Better Way to Fly – Dave the Goose’campaigns, he thrives on collaborating with world-class creative specialists. Not content with just excelling behind the camera, Fernando undertook a two-year theatre studies course to get accustomed to being on the other side of the lens and gain a fresh perspective on directing talent – knowledge that has shaped the Director he is today.
Well-versed in NZ’s advertising industry, having worked agency-side at True and Colenso BBDO and production-side in both Director & DOP roles, Fernando’s CV includes short films, TVCs, music videos and long-form TV productions and includes major campaign work for Air New Zealand, New World, Adidas, Mainland and Spark.
Passionate about tourism, sport, not-for-profit causes and strong character-led pieces, Fernando is keen to sink his teeth into campaigns that make a difference for people and the environment.
